Description

As promised, (as done with testing), is Andromeda in all its glory.  I got two good nights at Kennedy Meadows Bortle 3 to 4, SQM 21.25 to 21.80.  I went for a natural color for this year's attempt. (I plan to capture this queen of the skies every year).    I used a full frame OSC camera, pure RGB, integrated with APP, GraXpert to remove gradients (not much), color calibrated with SPCC, with a tad of Ha blended for the nebulosity.  Ha was from the Antlia Dual NB then APP to extract Ha.  If you want Ha or Oiii from a OSC camera that is the way to go.

I actually had three clear nights but the first night was too windy, the second night had much dew even though high desert and I didn't have my dew heater up high enough, was asleep and lost 4 great seeing hours due to dew on my lens.  Third night was supposed to be cloudy but was clear until 4:30am.

What my testing at backyard B7 was all about -  OSC or mono?  I actually liked the OSC with the Antlia TriRGB results from B7 and thought to try OSC with IRCUT from dark skies.  I tried various setups to frame this huge object but wanted the most focal length.  My WO 102GT with reducer with the ASI6200MC did the best, perfect pixel scale, but huge file size at 1gig.  The stars in the extreme corners are not great, this is due to the fact I'm using 2" filters instead of the more expensive 50mm ones.  This image was saved at 90% jpeg quality otherwise would have been 85MBs!

till next year...again!  -john
